What really happened to Rafe September? Everyone in Port Royal claims he was a thief and a pirate, but his daughter Molly knows that isn’t so. Newly returned from school abroad, Molly just wants to fall in love, but her family has her future and her marriage already planned. Taking her life and honor in her hands, she runs from an arranged marriage into dangerous waters in the company of Dick Prentiss, one of the men who knew her father best. Together they sail the seas of the Spanish Main in search of the truth and freedom, pursued by Molly’s jilted bridegroom, a man with the power to have them both arrested and hanged. The real peril? Prentiss already knows the true story of Rafe’s death, and he’ll do anything to protect the girl he loves from finding out. Romantic, dramatic, and even funny, Molly September evokes the great pirate movies of the past The Sea Hawk, Captain Blood, and so many others.

If you're looking for a historical romance with a spunky, non-traditional heroine, and you happen to like the pirate fantasy, you will enjoy this swashbuckling tale by Maggie Secara. While the mood and historical details of the period are well-drawn and convincing, the story is definitely pure escapism. Molly September, the daughter of a famed privateer and mate of the great Sir Henry Morgan, is the ward of her stuffy aunt and uncle in Port Royal, Jamaica. She falls in love with a rakish pirate and runs away with him on a series of fantastic adventures in the Caribbean, only to discover, at the end, more about her father's mysterious death and her own identity. I liked this less than the author's fantasy series about Ben, Raven and the King of the Faeries, but her writing is strong and her plot draws you in and keeps moving.

Molly September Maggie Secara 9780981840123 Books Reviews

Excellent book. Excellent author. Ms. Secara's work is entertaining and enlightening and will "knock the socks off" anyone who reads it.
A real bodice ripper. The author has seen too many old pirate movies.
I was at once swept away with Molly, the beautiful redhead with a taste for adventure. I turned the pages and sat faithfully by waiting for Molly to be rescued from her dull and boring life, having been all but sold off to a foppish man rumored to have killed his last wife. Then Dick Prentiss whisked into her world, dazzled her with the promise of adventure, and together they set sail on a privateering adventure the likes of which I never could have dreamed, but was oh so glad to have enjoyed through this book!

Steamy scenes, swordplay, and drunken folly abound in Molly September. I laughed, I cried, and laughed some more. Maggie Secara set in place a fabulous world based on historical elements and places laced with fantastical adventures and heartening romance. Her book has quickly risen to my favorites shelf, where it shall remain, well worn for its many reads!

If you enjoy adventure on the high seas, a little bit of romance, and a lot of fantastic characters in your books, then you simply must go pick up a copy of Molly September!
I agree with the other reviews out there. Pirate stories abound. Maggie is very good at mixing history with a great storyline. She knows her "stuff' and can still tell a story that is fun.
Romance novels gag me. Molly was a good adventure story. There was romance, but of the ungagging type. This book is safe for male readers. Besides, it's a pirate story, what more could a guy ask for.
It has been a long time since I read a pirate-themed romance, and what fun to have the central character be a smart, feisty and beautiful young woman. Her man is worth fighting for, the action is so cleverly written you can almost smell the islands and the sea, and you will get a good dose of carefully researched history along with your romping adventure. Great stuff!
This pirate adventure story begins in Port Royal, where we meet both Dickon Prentiss, charming street thief, and Molly September, a young lady of marriageable age whose prospects and fortune are being managed by her uncle, Sir Roger. Molly has the fiery attitude of a classic Maureen O'Hara character. She's also the daughter of a swashbuckling buccaneer she hardly knew, but that Dickon clearly did.

The first part of the book has all the elements of a romance novel, then it transitions to a rousing adventure on the high seas, set in the Sir Henry Morgan era of buccaneers and freebooters in the Caribbean. Tension between the romance and the adventure is maintained to the very end of the novel. The style is quite readable, without excess verbiage, but still sets the stage lushly. Characters are distinct and distinctive. The details of the novel ring true, and chapters are named after dances or dance moves of the time.

Recommended to readers looking for a good pirate escape with a strong female lead.
